The woman answered to many titles: Wife, friend, Christian…but mostly (for me anyway) she was just “Mom.”
You’ll also read stories about my Father (Leroy Brown, Sr. – no jokes please), Bill and Gramma (my grandparents), my siblings (by order of birth): Doodle (real name Leroy, the original “Bad Bad Leroy Brown”!), Sissy (real name Helen – but not to her face!), Mim (James), Darryl (just Darryl), Jae (Elnora), Babe (Arthur), June (my twin) and Yvonne/Vonnie (BomnBomn).
These are just some of my blood relatives. I haven’t even begun to mention my aunts, uncles, cousins (first, second and beyond), and my siblings’ in-law (believe me, there’s a story for each and every one), and (as Mom would call them) the “out-laws” (we have LOTS and LOTS of those!).
And then there’s Mr Horace – a kindly old man who lived with us for a time; Miss Ellen, Miss Maggie, Miss Sarah – and her brood.
Basically, “Lessons from Mom/Home” is the backdrop of my life; what made me who I am today (so THESE are the folks who are to blame?!).
I love them all and am happy to have been a part of their lives – and they mine.
